Bunnies and Hostesses
Back in the 1960's airline Hostesses and, of course, Playboy Bunnies were often seen lighting the cigars, cigarettes, and pipes of their customers. Smoke was everywhere, drifting into their pretty feminine faces, and on plane flights they (and everyone else) were trapped in the smokey, recirculated atmosphere of the cabin for the duration of the flight. Even Playboy's signature little nudie cartoon character lit her men's pipes, no doubt inhaling billows of cartoon smoke as she did.
The symbolism of a 5" tall nude, submissive woman the size of a plaything probably isn't lost on anyone. For the purposes of this blog I will concentrate on the fact that as she cheerfully lit your pipe she would be smothered with heavy, swirling clouds of sweet smelling pipesmoke. I'd be surprised if she didn't collapse from smoke inhalation.
Just for context, the majority of the populace smoked at that time, including stewardesses and bunnies. Many liked the smell of smoke, or were so used to it that they didn't notice it at all. Smoking was an accepted part of socializing to the point that the idea of smoking and non-smoking sections was almost unheard of, still being years in the future. Getting smoke in your face was almost unavoidable and accepted as part of life by most people, even if they didn't personally like tobacco smoke.
Sophisticated male enclaves around the world like the Playboy Clubs were built on the fantasy of beautiful, eager, scantily-clad women fulfilling a businessman's every desire. And that naturally included lighting a man's smoke.
